FOCN45 CWWG 141930 SIGNIFICANT WEATHER DISCUSSION ISSUED BY THE PRAIRIE AND ARCTIC STORM PREDICTION CENTRE OF ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 2:00 PM CST THURSDAY NOVEMBER 14 2024. ALERTS IN EFFECT...NONE AT THIS TIME. SYNOPTIC OVERVIEW...UPPER TROUGH PUSHING INTO BC MAINLAND. SHORTWAVE OVER SOUTHWESTERN SK SUPPORTING A 1001 MB SFC LOW. ANOTHER SHORTWAVE SITS OVER NORTHERN HUDSON BAY, SUPPORTING A 1004 MB SFC LOW. A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE STRETCHES FROM THE MACKENZIE DELTA SOUTHWARD INTO NORTHERN MB. A WEAK RIDGE ALSO SITS OVER SOUTHERN MB. AN UPPER LOW IS OVER THE HIGH ARCTIC, SUPPORTING A 1002 MB SURFACE LOW. DISCUSSION... WESTERN PRAIRIES...A SURFACE LOW OVER SOUTHEASTERN ALBERTA IS BRINGING SNOW TO NORTHERN ALBERTA AND SASKATCHEWAN OVER THE NEXT 24-36 HOURS. BRIEF FREEZING RAIN WAS REPORTED THIS MORNING IN LLOYDMINSTER, BUT THE RISK HAS LARGELY DIMINISHED AS TEMPERATURES ARE WARMING UP AND PRECIP IS MOVING OUT OF THE REGION. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS THROUGH NORTHERN ALBERTA AND SASKATCHEWAN WILL GENERALLY BE IN THE 2-5 CM RANGE. EASTERN PRAIRIES...FOG THAT SPREAD OVER PARTS OF SOUTHERN MANITOBA LAST NIGHT IS LIFTING THIS MORNING AND THE ADVISORY HAS BEEN ENDED. DENSE FOG IS NOT FORECAST TO RETURN AGAIN TONIGHT. THE SFC LOW OVER SOUTHERN SK WILL TRACK NORTHEAST TODAY, WITH PRECIP SPREADING ACROSS SK AND THEN CENTRAL AND NORTHERN MB OVERNIGHT INTO FRIDAY. FROM THE NRN GRAINBELT OF SK INTO NRN MB, PRECIP WILL MAINLY FALL AS SNOW, WITH TOTAL ACCUMS IN THE 3-7 CM RANGE BY FRIDAY EVENING. NT...A SECONDARY TROUGH MOVING THROUGH THE NWT WILL BRING A WIDE SWATH OF 2-4 CM OF SNOW TO REGIONS BETWEEN GREAT SLAVE LAKE AND THE MACKENZIE DELTA. OTHERWISE, PERSISTENT STRATUS CONTINUES TO MAKE TEMPERATURE FORECASTING DIFFICULT FOR THE TERRITORY. TEMPERATURES REMAIN GENERALLY STEADY UNDER STRATUS, WHERE GUIDANCE IS SUGGESTING LARGE DIURNAL VARIATION. EASTERN ARCTIC...THE LOW OVER HUDSON BAY CONTINUES TO AFFECT THE REGION TODAY, WITH 5 TO 10 CM OF SNOW FORECAST FOR SOUTHEASTERN BAFFIN ISLAND, TODAY. END/SPC-WPG/STAUNTON
